The latest edition of the Indian Premier League is about to begin in a span of a few days. Fans are thrilled to see their favourite teams performing well and smashing records in the IPL season 14 entitled to start from April 9.

Let us take a look at the existing records for the highest and the lowest scores in the history of IPL.

LIST OF HIGHEST SCORES IN IPL

TOP 5 SCORES IN IPL HISTORY

Here is detailed information about the highest five scores in the IPL to date.

1. ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE (263/5 AGAINST PUNEWARRIORS)

The record for the highest score in the history of the Indian Premier League is made by the team Bangalore. Despite not winning any title in the tournament, RCB has managed to make its place on the top two spots in the list of highest scores. On April 23, 2013, the team garnered 263 runs at a loss of five wickets in the ground of Bangalore. Chris Gayle made a whopping 175 runs in this match including 17 sixes and 13 fours. Team Pune could only manage to score 133 in front of this gigantic target.

2. ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE (248/3 AGAINSTGUJARAT LIONS)

The second highest score record is with RCB again. On May 14, 2016, the team scored 248 runs at a loss of just three wickets in the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Gujarat Lions were able to just score 104 runs without the presence of Suresh Raina. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers made 229 runs in partnership. Virat Kohli also accomplished the task of scoring a century twice against the same team in a single season of IPL.

3. CHENNAI SUPER KINGS (246/5 AGAINST RAJASTHAN ROYALS)

The third highest score record is held by the three times winner Chennai Super Kings. CSK scored a massive 246 runs at a loss of five wickets in the match at Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on April 3, 2010. CSK broke its own record of 240 runs against Team Punjab in 2008 with this match.

The highest runs were made by Murali Vijay (127 off 56 balls). He became the third Indian to score a century in IPL after Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan.

4. KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS (245/6 AGAINST PUNJAB KINGS, THEN KINGS XI PUNJAB)

The record for the fourth-highest score in IPL is held by Kolkata Knight Riders against team Punjab. The team garnered a total of 245 runs at a loss of 6 wickets. Sunil Narine scored the highest amongst the players of KKR followed by Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell. Team Punjab managed to make 214 runs only, thus making KKR win by 31 runs.

5. CHENNAI SUPER KINGS (240/5 AGAINST PUNJAB KINGS, THEN KINGS XI PUNJAB)

The record for the fifth-highest score in IPL is again held by Chennai super Kings. In the premiere season of the Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings made a record 240 runs against team Punjab at Mohali on April 19, 2008. Michael Hussey holds the record for making the fastest century in IPL. Team Punjab could only garner 207 runs, thus making CSK win from 33 runs. It was the highest record score at that time.

Here are all the details about the bottom five scores in the IPL series.

1. ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE (49 AGAINST KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS)

RCB tops the least here as well. On April 23, 2017, none of the players from RCB was able to score double-digit! It was an embarrassing night for team Royal Challengers Bangalore. The highest score of the match was 9 by Kedar Jadhav. Exceptional players like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle disappointed the fans. Virat was out without scoring a single run! AB de Villiers (8) and Chris Gayle (7) made a partnership of just 15 runs.

KKR gave a challenge of 131 runs to the team, but RCB could only garner 49 runs making them the least scorer of all times in the history of IPL!

2. RAJASTHAN ROYALS (58 AGAINST ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE)

The score by Rajasthan Royals in the 2009 match against RCB had held the record for the least score for years till Royal Challengers Bangalore decided to top here. Anil Kumble from RCB was a major blow to the batsmen of RR. He took 5 wickets for five runs from 3.1 overs. RCB gave a challenge of 133 runs in front of Rajasthan Royals but they failed miserably only to give RCB a win and set the record of the least score.

3. DELHI CAPITALS EARLIER DELHI DAREDEVILS (66 AGAINST MUMBAI INDIANS)

Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals) made it to the list of least scorers in the year 2017. It was a disappointing year for the fans of Team Delhi. Mumbai Indians made 213 runs in the first innings that posed a challenge ahead for Team Delhi. The top-order batsmen like Sanju Samson (0), Shreyas Iyer (3) and Rishabh Pant (0) scored very low. Karun Nair was a ray of hope for the fans, but Harbhajan Singh took his wicket. Ultimately, Delhi lost all his players one by one in a span of 13.4 overs.

4. DELHI CAPITALS EARLIER DELHI DAREDEVILS(67 AGAINST PUNJAB KINGS, THEN KINGS XI PUNJAB)

The fourth spot on the list of all-time least scorers in the History of IPL is once again held by team Delhi. On April 30 2017, team Delhi lost the match to team Punjab in Chandigarh. The Delhi players were able to secure just 67 runs in 17.1 overs. Only three players Karun Nair (11), Corey Anderson (18) and Kagiso Rabada (11) were able to secure a double-digit score. Others in the team could not even reach a two-digit score, leave alone performing well.

5. KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS (67 AGAINST MUMBAI INDIANS)

Fifth on the list is Kolkata Knight Riders after scoring 67 runs against Mumbai Indians on May 16, 2008. In the first season of the IPL, fans were hugely disappointed after seeing Kolkata Knight Riders making it to the list of least scorers in IPL. MI had great bowlers like Shawn Pollock and Dwayne Bravo, who took wickets not permitting the batsmen to score many runs.

TEAM-WISE HIGHEST AND LOWEST SCORES IN IPL

We have already discussed the all-time high and low scores of the IPL. Now, let us find out the top and the least scores by the individual teams in the span of all the editions of the IPL tournament.

1. CHENNAI SUPER KINGS (CSK)

• HIGHEST SCORE – 246/5 AGAINST RAJASTHAN ROYALS

The highest score by CSK is even in the all-time high scores list of IPL. They scored 246 runs against RR in Chennai’s Chidambaram stadium in the year 2010. Murli Vijay was the star of the match after scoring 127 runs in just 56 balls.

• LOWEST SCORE – 79/10 AGAINST MUMBAI INDIANS

Chennai Super Kings scored as low as 79 against Mumbai Indians in the year 2013. Team Mumbai scored 139 in the first innings. However, team CSK could not meet the target and were out of the ground before the overs could end.

2. MUMBAI INDIANS (MI)

• HIGHEST SCORE – 223/6 AGAINST PUNJAB KINGS EARLIER KINGS XI PUNJAB

In the year 2017, team Mumbai garnered their highest score in IPL after securing 223 runs at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against team Punjab. Unfortunately, they lost that match by just 7 runs.

• LOWEST SCORE– 87/10 AGAINST SUNRISERS HYDERABAD

In the following year, team Mumbai scored their lowest to date in the IPL tournament. The team decided to bowl first and SRH gave a mere 118 runs as a challenge. However, SRH bowlers did not allow MI to even chase this target and claimed all their wickets just at 87 runs.

3. ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE (RCB)

• HIGHEST SCORE – 263/5 AGAINST PUNE WARRIORS

The highest score by RCB is the highest ever for any team in the IPL Series. They secured a huge 263 runs in the year 2013 at Bengaluru. Pune Warriors made 133 runs, only to lose the match against the team RCB.

• LOWEST SCORE – 49/10 AGAINST KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS

The irony is the team with the highest ever score secured its top position in the list of least scores as well. The team were able to score only 49 runs against KKR in the year 2017.

4. KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS (KKR)

• HIGHEST SCORE – 245/6 AGAINST PUNJAB KINGS EARLIER KINGS XI PUNJAB

The highest score by KKR has made it to the IPL history’s highest score list too. They made 245 runs in the match which was the benchmark for team Punjab. The Punjab players tried but failed to win this match.

• LOWEST SCORE – 67/10 AGAINST MUMBAI INDIANS

The lowest score by team Kolkata has secured its place in the lowest scores ever of IPL. They were able to just make 67 runs in the initiating season of the IPL tournament against Mumbai Indians.

5. DELHI CAPITALS (DC)

• HIGHEST SCORE – 231/4 AGAINST PUNJAB KINGS EARLIER KINGS XI PUNJAB

The team secured 231 runs against team Punjab ten years back in the year 2011. The top batsmen in the team helped to achieve this feat and helped the team to win that match.

• LOWEST SCORE – 66/10 AGAINST MUMBAI INDIANS

The team failed to show its skill in front of Mumbai Indians in the year 2017. Team Delhi just made 66 runs against the 212 runs given as a challenge to them. It is still among the all-time lowest scores of IPL.

6. SUNRISERS HYDERABAD

• HIGHEST SCORE – 231/2 AGAINST ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE

The team got their highest score recently in the year 2019 in a match against RCB. They garnered a total of 231 runs and ultimately RCB lost the match.

• LOWEST SCORE – 96/10 AGAINST MUMBAI INDIANS

In the same year 2019, SRH shocked the fans by securing their lowest ever score in IPL. They were able to secure just 96 runs against Mumbai Indians.

7. PUNJAB KINGS

• HIGHEST SCORE – 231/4 AGAINST ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE

Team Punjab secured their top score against RCB after making 231 runs. Virat’s team was not able to cope up with the pressure of reaching this margin and were all out after securing 121 runs in the match.

• LOWEST SCORE – 73/10 AGAINST RISING PUNE SUPERGIANT

In the year 2017, team Punjab made their least score against team Pune. The entire team was out after making just 73 runs. Rising Pune Supergiantwon the match after reaching this target in just 12 overs.

8. RAJASTHAN ROYALS

• HIGHEST SCORE – 223/5 AGAINST CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

About eleven years back, team Rajasthan set a benchmark for themselves after scoring 246 runs against Chennai Super Kings. However, the team lost that match since CSK performed better than them.

• LOWEST SCORE – 58/10 AGAINST ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE

The lowest score by RR is still in the top positions of the all-time least scores in IPL. The team failed to perform in front of RCB’s bowlers in the second season of IPL and secured mere 58 runs.
